He challenged her to be more, not just for herself but for their empire. From the very beginning he saw her as more than a monster and machine and tried to always make her feel normal. He knew that people wouldn’t look twice at what he was doing if they thought he was just some crazy, spoiled brat. He reminded me a bit of Kaz from Six of Crows with all of his scheming and leaning heavily into other peoples perception of him. I knew from the beginning that there was more too him than just being the “mad prince”. It was great getting to see her go from a rigid, single-mined, drone to a soft but still strong and independent person. I loved her internal struggle throughout the book am I too much monster to be human or an I too human to truly be a monster? Her growth was amazing and I hope it continues on in the next book. It did still have a kickass main female character. I have been reading a lot of fae-centric stories so this was a nice break.
